NOR gives SHAMAN'S SEDUCTION a Reviewer Top Pick!

I was thrilled when I heard Kathryne Kennedy was releasing some new stories. It's been many years since she's published a book and I've been a long time fan. I love how Kathryne transports me to new places and gives her worlds loads of magic. She did just that with this latest book.
"Shaman's Seduction" is a set of three paranormal stories involving tribes. Each is set in the same world, but is a self contained story. Each couple has obstacles to overcome and a love that unfolds. Kennedy doesn't take it easy on her characters. They have to work for their HEA.

Millicent Pantere learned early on to care for no one and nothing beyond herself, the one exception being old Nell. She will do anything necessary at whatever cost to bring Nell safely out of the clutches of the Dark Magician who is pulling Millicent's strings.
Gareth Solimere has been enchanted for hundreds of years to emerge from one of Merlin's ancient relics at fall of night, pleasure whatever woman holds his prison then disappear at dawn. If he can find one woman to love him, it may free him.

In EVERLASTING ENCHANTMENT, Kathryne Kennedy has written, in my opinion, the best of the Relics of Merlin series. I enjoyed each of the previous three very much, but something about this story grabbed hold deeply and would not let go until I finished. Perhaps it was the contrast between the lighter humorous moments and the intensity of the dark parts of the plot, perhaps the collection of characters I very quickly came to care about; maybe Kennedy is just a damn good story teller.

Whatever the reason, I can firmly recommend you read this book. Unlike many series, you can delve into EVERLASTING ENCHANTMENT without reading any of the previous books, but why would you deprive yourself of that enjoyment? Go ahead and start with this one if you like, the others will be waiting.

THE LORD OF ILLUSION is reviewed by The Library Journal, USA Today & Fresh Fiction

A sincere thank you to the following reviewers:

THE LIBRARY JOURNAL

Kennedy, Kathryne. The Lord of Illusion. Sourcebooks Casablanca. (Elven Lords, Bk. 3). Feb. 2012. c.448p. ISBN 9781402236549. pap. $7.99. HISTORICAL FANTASY

For years, the Rebellion has secretly fought to free England from the cruel tyranny of the mad elven lords. Now, half-elven Lord Drystan Hawkes has found the means to evict the elves and send them back to Elfhame, but he needs the help of the white witch of Ashton House, the multicolored elven-eyed woman of his visions and dreams and a slave in the court of Roden, the malicious lord of glamour and illusion. After saving Camille’s life, Drystan claims her as his “slave” and slowly wins her trust and eventually her love as they work to unlock the secret of the portal between the human and elven realms.

VERDICT In an exquisitely imagined alternate 18th-century England in which startling magic and vivid illusion are the norm, well-matched protagonists and an engaging supporting cast (including a remarkable dragon) come together in an action-packed adventure that will appeal to both romance and fantasy fans and beautifully concludes Kennedy’s popular trilogy. Kennedy (The Lady of the Storm) lives in Glendale, AZ.

Genre: Paranormal romance

The Lord of Illusion is Kathryne Kennedy's conclusion to her best-selling Elven Lords trilogy. Kennedy uses magic, violence and romance to paint a picture of an alternative history of England. She writes of a land controlled by seven elven lords with scepters of power and great dragon steeds. Each of these lords (and ladies) rules a sovereign part of England. They have virtually enslaved the human race, and any child showing signs of becoming more powerful than their predecessors (you see, intermingling was bound to happen) are "sent to Elfhame," which is a euphemism for being put to death. Fear not, Kennedy gives readers and English citizens alike hope … for there is a rebellion brewing, and many half-breeds are starting to rise up against their great parents in hopes of winning the ultimate right: freedom.

Each book in the trilogy can be read as a stand-alone, but the interwoven story of rebellion and intrigue is so much deeper when read in order.

The Fire Lord's Lover, which started the series, is about Dominic Raikes and Lady Cassandra. Dominic is the Fire Lord's son and plays a game of cat and mouse with his father: He can never reveal just how powerful he is or he will be put to death instantly. An arranged marriage by his father leads him to Cassandra, a gentle woman with deadly secrets. She's been sent to take down both the Fire Lord and Dominic, to help the rebellion. Passion blooms between them, however, and they must learn to trust each other or the human race could be enslaved forever.

The Lady of the Storm is the second book and deals with the daughter of the Storm Lord. Unlike Dominic, Cecily doesn't want a rebellion. She knows her father is after her, but all she wants is a normal life and to be safe and happy with her adoptive mother and father. But the rebellion wants to use her as a rallying point. Giles Beaumont is supposed to protect her, but she makes it very clear that she doesn't want a protector. Feelings are never hidden for long, though, and Cecily and Giles both must figure out whether they're really better together or should remain acquaintances only.

In The Lord of Illusion, Drystan Hawkes is the adopted son of Lady Cecily and Giles. For 10 years the scepters the rebellion have stolen have been whispering to him, urging him to find a woman with rainbow-colored eyes then find and free the scepters. Others think he is mad, because he goes into "fits" when the pure elven artifacts are "speaking" to him.

Camille is on the other side of the country. She's been a slave for a long time, and Kennedy doesn't pull punches where that is concerned. While she doesn't go into graphic detail, we know that Camille has been raped many times by the soldiers and that she's managed to rise above her station twice, only to be shoved back down. The repeated abuse has damaged her emotional and psychological growth. Imagine not being able to trust anyone. Or imagine knowing that anyone who does something for you has an ulterior motive. That is no way to live, yet live she must.

When Camille and Drystan meet, it's not fireworks and roses. No matter how Drystan tries to sweep her away, Camille's been swept underfoot too many times not to see where this is going. Besides, the thought of a man's hands on her makes her want to pick up the nearest sword and start chopping off certain … extremities. They have to figure out whether they can trust each other, for the time to squash the rebellion has come.

Whew … Kennedy did really, really well with Camille's character. The reader pities Camille, but we also know she will bounce back stronger then ever. Drystan is the perfect match for her as he tries to discover if Camille can ever love him, and just what it means to be in love.

One of the best parts of this book: All of the characters from the previous two books are brought together in a final showdown. It's been years, so Dominic, Cassandra, Cecily and Giles are older and more experienced, yet it's as if the love is still fresh and new. Fans of previous books will love seeing all of our "old friends" again.

Another fantastic aspect of The Lord of Illusion: The romance was realistic. The two characters didn't meet, fall in love, decide they can't be without each other and then rise up against their opponents. They had to deal with intense trust issues, internal conflict and doubt. It makes it that much more sweeter when they get together.

Jessie Potts, also known as Book Taster, adores books in all forms. She is a top 600 reviewer on Amazon and also does reviews for Bitten By Books and AllRomance.com.

Stay tuned to HEA for an upcoming interview with Kathryne Kennedy.

"A magical journey fraught with daring, danger, and dragons concludes this stunning trilogy."

Paranormal Historical

Drystan Hawkes desires an adventure that will help aid the Rebellion in their quest to rid England of the elven lords. After all, he possessed enough elven blood with the potential for powerful magic that his parents feared for his life and sent him to Wales. However, that did not end all of his problems as the scepters chose to send him visions on how to open the door to Elfhame. While he dutifully catalogues documents and devours the Rebellion's history, he scours for any mention of his mystery woman. At long last his work has paid off, and only he is suited to rescue her from her predicament. He is quite ready to traipse through Dreamhame, where everything is illusion and nothing is at it seems to save her. Will he be able to find the woman in his visions? Will they be able to unravel the mystery regarding the key?

Camille Ashton cannot quite sever the bonds of her slavery. Every time she rises above her station, a horrible disaster occurs sending her back to the slave quarters. She has grown tired of waiting for another miracle, and knows that she can only trust herself to escape her miserable existence. When a man comes looking to save her, she is wary of strangers especially when illusion is the norm. However, she soon realizes that he is a man of his word, but she still remains cautious. After all, she is a slave with no magical abilities whatsoever, so she does not see how she can be important to opening the door to Elfhame. She does know that Drystan seems to hold the key to her heart, and she will do anything to rid England of their elven impressors. Will they succeed in their mission? Or will they risk their lives for naught?

Kathryne Kennedy works her magic weaving an incomparable delight and offering up a breathtaking finale. She takes readers to new heights as the Rebellion gathers their limited resources in preparation for the epic battle against the elven lords. Drystan lives and breathes the Rebellion, and growing up with their lore wishes to join their legendary ranks. Camille lives a solitary existence struggling to survive, and wishes beyond hope for a way out of slavery. Together, they are willing to risk everything for a chance to truly free humankind. With the combined rebel forces, they will unleash a power that hopefully will rid England once and for all of the elven influence. Ms. Kennedy paints a glorious landscape with her words, summons a battle with the elements, and imagines a love with no boundaries. THE LORD OF ILLUSION is a fantastic tale laden with adventure, romance, and suspense. I cannot wait to see what mischief and passion Ms. Kennedy will dream up next.

HE'LL DO ANYTHING TO FREE HIS PEOPLE... Lord Drystan Hawkes dreams of fighting for England's freedom from the endless evils of the Elven Lords. But first he must find the beautiful slave girl who holds the secret to his quest.

SHE HOLDS THE KEY TO HIS LIBERATION... Enslaved for years in a realm of illusion, Camille Ashton has learned to trust no one. But she's truly spellbound when she meets Drystan, and somehow when they are together, she can see what's true.

From Kathryne Kennedy, acclaimed by critics as "absorbing" and "impossible to put down," The Lord of Illusion opens ups to an enchanting world with characters that live and breathe between the pages.

How does one take a battered and abused woman and teach her to love? The answer is: very slowly and with as little magic as possible. Thing is, that’s hard to do when she’s stuck in a magical world as a slave and the master is a psychotic magic wielding elf with fits of paranoia. But Drystan wouldn’t be the hero he is if he didn’t try. And that is only one of the amazing journeys that a reader experiences on this final wild ride in a world where England is riddled with Fey power plays.

That’s been the overall story arc throughout this amazing series by the talented Ms. Kennedy – to free England from the elves’ maniacal rule. It’s been a long struggle with many great warriors dying for the cause and this story is no different. There are some very unexpected fatalities that occur and although they weren’t English, they were noble and honorable just the same – in their own way. But I get ahead of myself.

Even though there is a hero and heroine, Drystan Hawkes is the man who made the most impact on me. Whereas the heroine, Camille, has been in the magical part of England all her life, the hero has not. His experience is so unusual because he’s magically affected, even so far away. There’s a reason for that but I’m not saying how. Because of it and the fact that he’s in the small non-magical part of England, he ended up being a victim of prejudice and fear. It’s isolated him from society and he’s practically lived his life vicariously through books. How then can a man of limited actual experience jump into the middle of an active rebellion and expect to defeat the demented elf, save the girl and free England? Sounds complicated and it is which is why I’m so impressed with Ms. Kennedy’s writing. She kept a tight rein on all the plot threads while thoroughly entertaining me.

Give Camille her due, she’s had a horrific life. She’s truly been abused mentally, physically and socially. In a way, she reminded me of that Shirley Temple movie way back when the rich little girl was pampered and well treated but as soon as it was thought she was a pauper and orphaned, bad, nasty things happened until her daddy was found alive and she was rescued. Camille wasn’t as fortunate because her rescue will come years and years after her secure world was ripped from her. What I admired about her was her determination to rise above slave status. It took sheer guts to get knocked back as many times as she was only to get up and start over again. That kind of strength of character deserves to be rewarded and it is, with Drystan.

Drystan has an in as to what special handling Camille needs and that is where the romance begins. It’s a slow dance of trust building peppered with small gestures of respect and kindness. He shows the heroine admiration and gives her back honor and a sense of self worth. Does she trust it? No. That provides plenty of character driven conflict that kept me turning the pages.

The external conflict is varied. It bounces between secondary characters of ill intent and the main Fey lunatic, Lord Roden. There are magic battles, sword battles and lots of other kinds of action to keep a reader enthralled. There is a good support cast too which really rounded out the book.

Then there are the moments when fledgling love leads to tentative touches and soft caresses. I enjoyed that writing immensely. Again, Ms. Kennedy captured the emotions of her characters and shared it with readers with effective dialogue, descriptions and action, making the scenes come alive. When Camille finally allows herself to express her love to Drystan, it was beautiful, passionate and dare I say, quite inventive. The part with the Arabian Nights was deliciously naughty and I loved every word because it was so sexy and sensual.

The big climactic battle did not disappoint. It was hectic, frenetic and desperate. All the important characters came together from the previous books in the series to help out. There are tears, suspense and ultimately, jubilation. What happens to the elves wasn’t what I expected at all. But, the author proved once again that they just aren’t human. The comment about the scepters gave me pause and I’m filled with speculation. I am also very curious as to how England is going to look, sound and feel post-elf. I hope Ms. Kennedy has some secret plans to visit once again. Something that was said leads me to hope for the possibility.

The Lord of Illusion is sensory nirvana. I totally enjoyed Drystan’s idea of romantic ambiance and found it dreamy and delightful. I loved the descriptions and the author’s ability to capture emotions and translate into words just how much the hero loved the heroine. Some of them were truly poetic. When the action started and the swords started swinging, again, Ms. Kennedy made me feel like I was in the thick of it. The happily ever after was everything I could have hoped for and it ended the series on a solid note of hope, joy and optimism for the future. I’m going to miss this mad, magical world of England and I thank Ms. Kennedy for a wonderful reading experience.

In 1774, hybrid Lord Drystan Hawkes wants to free England from the vicious Elven lords, which includes his despicable sire. To do this he must open the portal to Elfhame that will force these evil abominations from his country; and he believes he finally has the key.

In Elfhame, Camille Ashton the slave possesses the means to open the portal. Drystan also realizes she is his soul mate, which makes him wary of placing her in danger. Drystan goes to rescue his beloved and obtain the key. When they meet, she finds her attraction to him enhanced by her first encounter with a pure soul while he realizes somehow his magical skills are enhanced by his mate. As they fall in love while risking their lives, Camille and Drystan fight the malevolent elf lords.

The latest Elven Lord historical romantic fantasy (The Fire Lord’s Lover) is a wonderful tale as the heroic protagonists are prepared to die for their noble cause while each is willing to sacrifice themselves for the other. The story line is fast-paced throughout as love exponentially amplifies the skills of the lead couple, but that may not be enough to overcome the wicked elf lords in an engaging good vs. evil battle.

Running in this week's issue of Publishers Weekly:

The Lord of Illusion
Kathryne Kennedy. Sourcebooks Casablanca, $7.99 mass market (448p) ISBN 978-1-4022-3654-9

Fans will adore the satisfying conclusion (after The Lady of the Storm) of Kennedy’s Elven Lords romantic fantasy series. In a medieval England invaded by elves, the human rebellion has gained in strength thanks to the efforts of the elf/human half-breeds, and rebels have managed to steal several of the scepters that channel the lords’ magic. Drystan Hawkes is an unexpected hero, a curator and historian of magical artifacts. The scepters send him visions of Camille Ashton, one of the elves’ human slaves, and hint that she is the key to the rebellion’s success. In love with Camille from his visions, Drystan is overjoyed when he finally finds her, but daunted by the twin challenges of uncovering Camille’s powers and teaching her about loyalty, trust, and love. The world sings with vivid imagery and fantastic magic, and all the previous characters join forces in a thrilling final fight for humankind.

And running in the January 1st issue of Booklist:

The Lord of Illusion.

Kennedy, Kathryne (Author)

Feb 2012. 448 p. Sourcebooks/Casablanca, paperback, $7.99. (9781402236549).

The third book in Kennedy’s Elven Lords series is the story of Drystan Hawkes and Camille Ashton. Forced to give up his birthright when it looked like his magic was powerful enough to condemn him, he was raised outside Elf-ruled England. She is a slave with rainbow-colored elven eyes, but no magic, and is seemingly cursed. Drystan has always been an outcast, taking refuge in books because of convulsions and visions inflicted on him by the scepters stolen by the Rebellion. Finding a rainbow-eyed girl seen in his visions becomes his obsession. Just as his research opens up clues as to the identity of the girl, the Rebellion taps Drystan to go to the palace of Lord Roden, which is where Camille is enslaved. Kennedy’s world-building, featuring an eighteenth-century England ruled by cruel Elven lords facing a rising rebellion of their half-human offspring, is superb. The hero and heroine are also out of the ordinary, and while this novel remains true to romance-genre mores, Kennedy infuses it with unexpected plot twists that will keep fantasy readers enthralled, too.

Book 2 in the Elven Lords series, The Lady of the Storm, was recently named a Top Romance Novel of 2011 by Booklist.

Lynda Scott, Tamazon, M Breakfield, Sia McKye, Linda Banche & Harriet Klausner review THE LADY OF THE STORM

"While this is a second book in the series, it's important to know that it will stand alone quite nicely...although you'll probably want to get the first book, The Firelord's Lover (another fantastic book).

Kathryne Kennedy has done an excellent job of describing the setting and creating a villainous group of beings that are simply malicious or insane or both. She has a deft hand combining fantasy with historical story and romance so seamlessly that the reader is never jarred out of the special world she's created. For those who love fantasy romance, Kathryne Kennedy is a MUST read."

"Enter Ms. Kennedy’s lush, powerful and magical world for the second time in The Lady of the Storm...Ms. Kennedy is my go to author for fantasy romance and the The Elven Lord's series is a keeper!"

Tamazon

"THE LADY OF THE STORM is an enjoyable fantasy romance with plenty of adventure and complex and intriguing world building. Ms. Kennedy creates an awe-inspiring world, which draws the reader in and keeps the interest high throughout. Giles and Cecily make a wonderful couple, who must overcome, not only physical obstacles but emotional ones, in order to be together. At first, Giles doesn't consider himself, the son of a blacksmith, good enough for Cecily. The class distinction means little to Cecily, who must overcome her own insecurities. Just when it seems these two can, finally, be together, they are torn apart and must struggle to be together.

Filled with spectacular descriptions and imagery, THE LADY OF THE STORM makes a great read for the lover of fantasy romance, and I highly recommend it. The next book in this series can't come out soon enough!"

A WONDERFUL STORY FROM A REMARKABLE AUTHOR!
"Kathryne’s ability to take history as we know it and add a twist to create an alternate world is amazing...

Ah, a young woman scorned and a reluctant protector must overcome their hurts and work together with the rebellion to find Cecily’s adoptive father, capture Breden’s power scepter and destroy him. It becomes a tempestuous love story between two strong-minded people set against the backdrop of intrigue, magic, and incredible danger."

THE LADY OF THE STORM is a great read for those who love epic fantasy romance

Sia McKye's Reviews

"Ms. Kennedy has created another fascinating blend of history and magic in the elven kingdom of Dewhame. Merging magic and mores, she again captures Georgian sensibilities against the background of a world of magical wonders. And the magical water wonders are indeed wonderful and fit seamlessly into the story.

But The Lady of the Storm is also a study of heroism. Giles and Cecily, so human in their determination to seek their desires, achieve heroism and their yearned-for love when they finally accept the roles fate has thrust upon them.

Another fine effort from the master of historical magical romance."

Linda Banche

"The latest Kathryne Kennedy Georgian romantic fantasy (see The Fire Lord’s Lover) is a fabulous tale that deftly provides an alternative historical England in which Elven Lords brutally rule. The story line is leisurely paced as the relationship between the lead couple evolves while they flee from a persistent lethal adversary. Sub-genre readers will enjoy a trek into the Kennedy realm."

Paranormal Romance published by Sourcebooks Casablanca 1 Aug 11

"Kathryne Kennedy is one of those authors whose books I anxiously await to hit the shelves. She builds the most exciting, unusual, and alluring worlds for her stories. Her characters also exude the same qualities, and then some, with such emotional pull surrounding them, all because of their circumstances and, ultimately, their unconditional measure to love. She weaves a spell around her readers just as her characters cast their spells of magic in and around a London that will surprise you at every turn....

Have you read any of Kathryne Kennedy’s books? If not, you need to. Get lost in her magical, spell-binding worlds, meet characters you’d truly like to know, and triumph with them, just as romance readers have come to expect, when love wins the day against the wrongs of the worst evils for the betterment of mankind. Then you, too, will come back to her stories again and again."

"Kathryne Kennedy crafts a glittering historical romance greatly enriching it with a splash of fantasy. Her imagination knows no bounds as she weaves a spectacular tale where England has been conquered by seven elven lords. She sweeps her readers along for the journey with her vivid descriptions from lush, fertile fields to desolate, barren wastelands depending on which lord rules sovereign. Cecily and Giles have a peril filled mission ahead of them, but the main danger seems to be whether or not they can keep their hands off of each other. I was completely addicted from the first page, and as the story wore on I knew that only finishing it would satisfy my craving. THE LADY OF THE STORM casts a magical spell, conjures a passionate romance, and beckons to be enjoyed over and over again. Ms. Kennedy brings a spark to the fantasy genre, and I look forward to the next pursuit in bringing down the elven lords."

"If a reader appreciates a book filled with pictures painted with words, and details that animate a world within your mind, then look no further than the amazing book by the talented Ms. Kennedy.

"The Lady of the Storm is a book worth spending the time with. I was first introduced to this alternate and fantastical England with The Fire Lord’s Lover. The world building astounded me then and I couldn’t imagine how much more could be added; it was already so rich. Ms. Kennedy had it covered. In this latest adventure, the author introduced me to a new quest, new characters, and new obstacles for the hero and heroine to overcome. I can also assure readers that this is a terrific stand alone read.

The Lady of the Storm is another whirlwind ride into the magical chaos that is England – a world that is fascinating as well as dangerous. Thanks to the stellar writing talents of Ms. Kennedy, I have a new series that will be an auto-buy for me. As real as the story seems when I’m in the midst of it, I am so glad no fire demons will actually jump out at me. However, I wouldn’t mind a Giles of my own, without that spooky sword of his, that is. Thank you, Ms. Kennedy, for a wild reading experience and for introducing me to a heroine and hero I enjoyed getting to know."

Sharing some brand new reviews for BENEATH THE THIRTEEN MOONS...

which is releasing December 1st!

"Desperate to save her people, but stung by the Healer's rebuff that cost the life of her child and lifemate, Mahri Zin travels dangerous routes of the Sea Forest to kidnap a Healer. Hoping for an apprentice whose knowledge of how to use the Power given through zabbaroot can supplement her own wild Master-level skills, Mahri gets more than she bargained for. Instead of a lowly apprentice, she ends up kidnapping the Crown Prince, an arrogantly beautiful man with enemies of his own. In order to save those she loves, Mahri has to decide whether her root-induced dreams are true and how much belief she places on the conspiracies of the Natives.

Prince Korl may be temporarily captured by the fierce water- rat, but the combination of his arrogance and her unwillingness to give of herself may doom their entire world, Royals, water-rats, Natives and all of the subterranean flora and fauna within.

BENEATH THE THIRTEEN MOONS is a fast-paced, elegantly written romance that reads almost like the best of fairy tales: the characters stay true to their original characterizations even as they learn and grow throughout the novel."

"Anyone who enjoyed Avatar or liked the concept of it will surely enjoy this latest amazing adventure by the talented Ms. Kennedy.

I think the author's version is more along the lines of what would happen generations later to humans who settled a planet and forgot their origins. Over time they evolved into something new and magical but something cathartic needed to happen to set the metamorphosis in motion and in this story, that event is love between a man and a woman.

Mahri is the heroine who has trust issues. Not because of something diabolical that scarred her. It was based on her own experience of lost love and the complications of class structure among the society she lived in. She has good solid values of loyalty, duty, love of family but her drive and determination come from her refusal to fail. She's compelled to do the unthinkable in order to save those that she loves from a dreaded sickness and time is running out. The author did a good job of making me care for those that Mahri loves including the woman herself. I got a clear sense of her fears, her yearnings and her tentative hope. I understood her skittishness when something really positive and beautiful came into her life and her obstinate refusal to admit that it meant as much to her as it really did.

That something positive and beautiful is Korl, the hero. He doesn't exactly come into her life, she kidnaps him. I enjoyed watching this proud man, who was secluded from the realities of the people who live beyond the scope of his kingdom, come to grips with all that he saw and Mahri opened his eyes to a much bigger world than he realized. Because he is so sure of himself and his position in life is why I felt he was freer to recognize and verbalize his love for Mahri. Korl's character is full of strength, passion, and the will to fight for what he wants and what he believes to be right. His sense of what is right is challenged by Mahri in every step of his journey with her. The part in the boat with the cats was incredibly powerful. At that moment I understood just how strong a man Korl is, and how much more Mahri needed to grow within herself before she could accept the gift that he had already given her.

Another beautiful part of the journey while Mahri was fighting her attraction and growing love for Korl was her revelations. As much as she fought her feelings, she had emotional urges to share things with him that she'd shown no one before, even her first husband. Ms. Kennedy wowed me with the scope of her imagination. The visual pictures her words painted in my mind would have rivaled the movie Avatar if it were brought to the big screen. The creatures she has created to populate the planet include those in the air, on the ground and in the ocean. The world building alone blows my mind because the author paid attention to the littlest detail. Even Mahri's furry companion, Jaja was a delight. I liked how he'd whack either Mahri or Korl when they were being too dense about something or needed to pay attention. The critter didn't need to use words to get his point across. Not only that but the author has a surprise up her sleeve for readers as the story unfolds in which Jaja plays an integral role. It's not too often I read a book where a strong secondary character isn't even human. I liked the freshness of it.

The conflict, as you can well imagine, is primarily internal. But there are definitely external dangers and they plague both of them on and off throughout the story. The zabba root is the substance that makes good things and bad things happen and I found the concept fascinating. There's a revelation about that little herb that has powerful repercussions and actually plays into the plot throughout the book.

Watching the romance develop between Korl and Mahri was both entertaining and painful. The sensual buildup was seductive and the physical moments between the two characters were fraught with emotional tension. So much healing had to take place before their bonding was solid and unbreakable. Korl's eventual realization that to keep her he had to let her go was another touching moment that endeared his character to me all the more. For me, Ms. Kennedy didn't miss any of my emotional hot buttons to push. She found them all with the telling of this story. Not only that, but the last things that Korl says in the book just had me melting into a puddle of romantic happiness. What a hero. :::sigh:::

Beneath the Thirteen Moons is a wonderful epic of a romance taking place on a fantastical world with a hero and heroine sure to find a place in a reader's heart. Ms. Kennedy has another winner on her hands and her talent for words brings to life characters you can believe in and is what makes the happily ever after so powerful. This book is a must read for all sci-fi romance fans who seek quality writing full of heart, adventure and a world that will astound a reader with its vivid imagery. I hope Ms. Kennedy plans to visit with Korl and Mahri again someday because all that creative energy that went into the making of this book shouldn't be a one shot deal. It's too amazing and rich and I really want to learn more about the indigenous people of the planet. This book was total entertainment and I don't want it to end. I give this tale a big and loud five books."

Author note: I wrote Beneath the Thirteen Moons way back in 2002. When I watched the movie Avatar, I had to wonder if the creator had been inspired by my book. :}

Eloisa James and...MY UNFAIR LADY!

http://bnreview.barnesandnoble.com/t5/Reading-Romance/Twice-Told-Tales/ba-p/3049;jsessionid=4A756624658D0AE6DB1B3EB83CEDB842

I'm thrilled that the fabulously talented author, Eloisa James, included My Unfair Lady in the article she wrote above for Barnes & Noble's Review column titled Twice-Told Tales. Eloisa introduces her wonderful Cinderella re-telling, A Kiss at Midnight, and also talks about other new twists on old classics, such as Lisa Kleypas's Love in the Afternoon and Sherri Browning Erwin's mash-up of Jane Eyre, Jane Slayre. I'm flattered to be in such fine company, and by Eloisa's very kind words about My Unfair Lady.

Initial reviews for THE FIRE LORD'S LOVER

I was concerned that my readers may be taken aback by my new series, as it's much darker than my previous one. So it's with great happiness that I share some of the first reviews for Book One in THE ELVEN LORDS series: THE FIRE LORD'S LOVER.

Rated: 5/5 "The Fire Lord’s Lover is a stellar example of making historical romance fresh, exciting and special. I had a blast reading this book from cover to cover and it is absolutely going on my keeper shelf. The story is rich and vibrant, fast paced and engrossing. The romance that blossomed between Dominic and Cassandra is worthy of another re-read. I can’t wait to read more by this author. She’s amazing!"~Reviewed by Xeranthemum for Long and Short Reviews

Romantic Times reviews The Fire Lord's Lover

THE FIRE LORD'S LOVER by Kathryne Kennedy
Genre: England, Paranormal, Historical Romance
Setting: 1724 England
RT Rating: 4.5/5 Stars!

Book one of Kennedy's Elven Lords series is a melding of historical romance and fantasy, much like Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. This enthralling story combines magic and realism as its excellent plot reaches out with great depth of emotion, heart-stopping action and characters easy to care about wrapped in a passionate love story.

In a magical world of England ruled by ruthless elven lords, Dominic Raikes, the half-breed son of the malevolent Fire Lord Mor'ded has submerged his human side in an attempt to keep his father unaware of his magical powers. Lady Cassandra Bridges, raised in purity and innocence, has been secretly trained as an assassin by the Rebellion, a band of humans who want England free of the Elven. An arranged marriage between her and Dominic is to take place within days.

Two unexpected events occur: she falls in love with her new husband and Dominic's reciprocal feelings free his human personality traits, such as passion, compassion and conscience. Together they fight to destroy the great evil being perpetrated upon the human race by the lords at the risk of their love and very existence, right up to the totally surprising climax. Hellmouth Podcast

Bryan of Hellmouth Podcast recently contacted me and asked to review Book One in my RELICS OF MERLIN series, ENCHANTING THE LADY. I’m always a bit nervous when a man asks to review my books (which is ridiculous, since a lot of men read romances. But I guess it seems like the majority of men scoff at them…at least in public.) But his site primarily reviews the BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER series, and since my books are rich in fantasy, he thought he might enjoy it, so I sent it to him.

Anyhoo, it was such a different, interesting experience to ‘hear’ a review as opposed to reading it, that I thought I would pass along the link (scroll down to the white box with the headphones and click on Podcast: Play in New Window):

Bryan has a smooth voice; compelling and entirely captivating. And he’s looking for more books to review. If you’d like to send him yours, you can contact him at: hellmouthpodcast@gmail.com
